Reviews
This hotel has a very quirky and charming aesthetic, reminiscent of George Washingtons private quarters. This place is not your typical hotel/motel- it is much more charming and vintage. The building is over a hundred years and used to be someone estate home-- the staircase and wood details are exquisite. Also, the staff Julie is very thorough and has a lot of good tips in the very entertaining and walkable neighborhood. I will stay here and recommend my family to stay here when we visit.
I can’t seem to understand all the negative reviews for this place. Complaining that the rooms are small and seem old when you’ve booked a converted 18th century house in a residential neighborhood or complaining about traffic and train noise when you’re literally on one of the main streets and transit lines in a major city is a bit silly. Yes the rooms are smaller than a hotel would be but that’s Boston. Also having to pay for parking is almost universal with lodging in major cities and the $25 per night that the Beacon Inn charges is more than reasonable compared to the $40-50 plus tip per night minimum it would cost anywhere downtown or in Back Bay. I lived nearby for a year or so which might be why it’s more to my expectations. The neighborhood is fantastic and safe with a ton of local restaurants and shops along with plenty of pharmacies and chains for whatever you need. If you travel with a pack of kids then the smaller rooms wouldn’t do but this place definitely gives gives you a taste of living like the locals as most of the studios around are this size and $2,000 per month in these old brownstone buildings. If you’re out of your room as much as you SHOULD be when traveling I think it’s more than adequate. The doors people are complaining about are basically standard bedroom doors but I haven’t felt like any of my things are at risk when I leave. It’s a house after all and feels like one when you’re walking through it. Beautiful old woodwork and architecture inside. Would recommend for sure if it’s suitable for your group size.
Ants in the bed. A lot of ants. Check right when you get to room. Rip covers off and examine. My rec other than that. I was happy.
8/2/20- The stay was fine until we woke up to a TON of ants in our bed. Absolutely disgusting.
What a huge disappointment. Would not stay here again.nnHere’s why:nn1. If you book online, READ THE FINE PRINT IN YOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL CLOSELY . . .because while you think you’ve booked at 1087 Beacon Street, after looking at the photos, in fact, you may have been put in the other building at 1850 Beacon Street . Hint: it’s not as nice.nnConfused? I was, too, and was told to look at the fine print at the bottom of my email.nnTo add insult to injury, I had just spent a fair amount of time looking for street parking, since I did not want to pay (rip-off)the $30 for parking they charge (not on the reservation form.)nnMy 3rd floor walk up attic room was depressing: was it the low ceilings, weird wallpaper, the tag sale looking furniture, or the worn not clean looking oriental throw rug. (Room #14 at 8150 Beacon Street.nnStay elsewhere!
