The Dolphin Bay Hotel is everything a family-owned establishment should be and more. What the rooms lack in glitzy decor make up in reliability, comfort, and security. We checked in with Robert who gave us travel suggestions for first timers. Have to say, we did EVERYTHING he recommended and enjoyed our two days except for the required COVID test we needed to fly on to Kauai. We cooked breakfast in our room. After settling in, we discovered we didn’t have a frying pan. Robert literally went to the store and bought a small skillet and spatula!nnAdded bonus: we were visited each day by “Opie”, the hotel cat. For pet lovers who left our fur children at home, things couldn’t have been better.

I'd love to give this place an awesome review because the owners were lovely however it really didn't meet expectations for me. One thing that reviews consistently mention is cleanliness but our room really was not that clean. I mean the bathroom was clean enough but there was no attention to detail in their cleaning. I had to take a rag and soap and clean the shelves on the inside of the refrigerator because there was so much gunk in there. Opened a drawer to find boarding passes from the previous guest. Carpet and kitchen floor very tired and in need of a deep clean. Also, I understand the climate of hawaii is very inviting for certain bugs but there were a lot of ants in the bathroom. Ants are very easy to control with a little preventative spray. Overall would not stay here again but for the price it does the trick.

Nice, small and quiet. Away from the busy streets, yet the ocean and the downtown shopping district are just a few blocks away.

This is a great place to stay in Hilo. My wife and I were there for four nights in early February 2021. After I came to accept that the legendary Banana Bread was a victim of Covid regulations, the place was fantastic. The place was very clean, well kept for its age, parking convenient and the location is very central. We had room 14, upstairs with a view. The room had all the amenities to cook in, if desired, we didn't as there are several restaurants within a 1/4 mile. The grounds arent overly large but what is there is beautiful. Orchard tress, banana and many other beautiful plants with a stream flowing through the middle. Nice place to sit and drink that coffee. Staff is super friendly, more than happy to sit down for 5 minutes and point you on your way with excellent recommendations for a day of exploring. Thanks to Vera, John ( I think) and especially Kelly who were really fantastic, great host and just good people. We will be back for certain

Really nice with an incredible outdoor lush river front and gardens.
