Was there in August 2019. James runs a first class operation: very good guides, friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable accommodations, rigging/beads/flies provided. Low water eliminated some excursion/adventure trips, but no fault to lodge. In fact, they were right upfront about prospects of disappointing trips.

Awesome place to stay and fish.nnAwesome lodge right on the naknek river. Super comfortable rooms with multiple beds and your own bathroom.nnGreat guides who know what they are doing.nnAmazing food seriously delicious no complaints at all.

This is an awesome fishing lodge - great fishing, great guides, great food, friendly and helpful staff. This is not really a great place for non-fisherman unless they just want to be disconnected and kick back. No TV, no internet - a plus in my book. Town is not much either, but I come to fish.nnI don't know why the one star warned about the new owners. Jim and James have been awesome hosts, going above and beyond to make sure we have a great experience.nnI have been to the Naknek River Camp they also own once in 2015 for silvers in mid-August and twice now to the Lodge in July 2017 and 2019. Each was a wonderful trip.nnThey also must treat their guides well since many have been there for years.

I don't write reviews but I found the previous review a little unfair. Just because you wanted more pampering than you got you give them 1 star! If you wanted more pampering you could stay just down the river and pay twice as much.nnI just got back from a trip with 7 other friends to the Katmai Trophy Lodge and had a better time than I could have hoped for. The group running the lodge went above and beyond on any special requests we had and the food was great. Sure, I could have gotten better food at a big city steak house but I was off the beaten path in ALASKA!nnThis was my first time fishing the Naknek River system so I can't speak about other guides from other lodges in the area but I'll tell you this group of guides is awesome. Great fisherman & they know these rivers.nnI look forward to the opportunity to get back out to Katmai Trophy Lodge and I know some other people that hope to do the same.nnThanks James, I appreciate the service.

We have been running trips with the Johnson family since the early 1990's. Very proud of that relationship and it ain't gonna change. These days, young James runs a great camp here and we can't wait to return next year...and the year after. Our customers expectations are exceeded and that is our #1 goal.
