Visited during a regional getaway in early fall and absolutely loved our visit.nnCalled for a reservation late last minute and Jim was kind enough to wait up for us. The House was cozy and clean; loved that the decor really showcased local history. Really enjoyed chatting with Mary Beth during a delicious breakfast and would absolutely visit again!
The Peacock House in Lubec surpassed our high expectations (which were based on many glowing reviews!). We spent 3 nights with MaryBeth and Jim, and even with a full house they were incredible hosts. We have stayed in many B&Bs and it is such a delight to meet proprietors who love what they do, and go above and beyond in making their guests comfortable.nThe house was not only beautiful, but spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a magnificent bed, perfectly outfitted in gorgeous linens.nEach day we enjoyed an extraordinary breakfast served to us by Jim and Marybeth after it was freshly prepared. We enjoyed pancakes, breakfast burritos and an apple baked dish all to die for! And those were only the main courses; each breakfast was accompanied by juice, coffee/tea and a unique and tasty first course.nThe common rooms were welcoming and included a sun filled room where coffee and tea were available as well as a refrigerator for guest use. Wine and water glasses were available for guest use also. A library room was full of books and games, and the front room contained a piano and other instruments. The garden full of flowers and birds was lovely. The location is very easy to find and a stone's throw from local restaurants, a ferry to Eastport, and the International bridge to Campobello Island, which we will visit when we return.nnAs a final note relevant to traveling during 2020, we were particularly grateful to the care and effort that MaryBeth and Jim extended to provide such a nice experience. We stayed at another B&B in Maine earlier this summer that involved staying in our room exclusively when we were at the inn (breakfast left outside the door , and eaten with plastic utensils on a TV tray in our room). In contrast, with appropriate face coverings and distance, The Peacock House experience included chatting with the owners and other guests along with a delicious full breakfast served to each pair of guests at well spaced tables in the first floor common rooms.
Everything about our three day stay was fabulous! We were nervous about going away in these COVID times but Mary Beth and Jim took all precautions to keep us (and themselves) safe. We felt secure and totally relaxed as we used their home to explore the region. Their company, the over-the-top delicious breakfasts, the inn itself and the location all contributed to a wonderful getaway. We will be back for sure.
It just could not have been much better! Our room was large, tastefully decorated, and freshly renovated! It had a very warm and easily operated gas fireplace and a very spacious bathroom.nnOur hosts were amazing! The breakfast fare was absolutely delicious. Our hosts recommended a wonderful restaurant nearby and it too was fabulous! We would definitely plan to stay stay at the Peacock House again if we venture back to Lubec!
Perfect place for a New England staycation. Friend and I each got a room and stayed for the weekend in mid-October at the end of the high season. Mary Beth and Jim could not have been more gracious hosts. The breakfast each morning was sumptuous. They were so friendly in giving guide ideas on places to visit. I stayed in the Summer Room, which had beautiful views of the Bay as well as the bridge to Campobello Island. Just a short drive to West Quaddy Head and the easternmost point with hiking trail. This was a lovely, charming place, and I highly recommend staying here.
