English Inn of Charlottesville

I have stayed in several hotels while working in Charlottesville. The English Cottage is my favorite by far. It has character as opposed to the cookie cutter chains. The buffet breakfast is delicious and offers everything you could want. The front desk staff is amazing- so friendly and helpful! I will not stay anywhere else while in Charlottesville.

The first part of our trip was a for a business meeting for me and the last half was for pleasure. I needed a good nights sleep, access to an iron and board, and a nice shower...this fit the bill.nWhen we checked in, we were originally put into a room where the king size mattress was on top of six torn up, tattered twin size box springs. There was a hole in the ceiling above the shower with drywall crumbling into the tub. And the toilet didn't flush. When we told them, they immediately moved us to a different room. The lady at the desk apologized profusely. I should think they'd have marked that room not to give to anyone else. They are in the midst of renovations which is promising. The carpets are stained, the wallpaper is stapled on, and the mini fridge in our room didn't work and leaked water over whatever we put inside. The rooms however were spacious, the bed was CLEAN and COMFORTABLE and the hotel was quiet. I never heard another quest or door shutting which is wonderful when you're a light sleeper like I am. I've never stayed in such a quiet hotel before. My fiancé and I were not impressed with the breakfast but Bodo's bagels is right next door which was LOVELY.nI never heard construction from the renovations which was nice as well as I was worried about that. I hope that their renovations really move this hotel to the potential that it has. It is lovely in the lobby area, the rooms leave a little to be desired. There is SO MUCH potential with renovations though. My hope is they tear it all out and upgrade.nNot a horrible stay...I've seen worse, but it could've been better. We may stay again once renovations are completed. It's convenient to most everything in Charlottesville and at the end of the day I'd recommend it. I'm excited to see what's in store for this hotel.

Off the main noisy roads very good place for quiet. Older but Clean! This is the only place that also serves a hot breakfast for free. Comfy beds. Will come back just make sure you order through Expedia its actually cheaper. This was last minute booking and I did not bring a bathing suite but the have a big indoor pool.

There is no staff here that are lacking in hospitality. The main owner Chelsea, is probably the most considerate and professional hotel manager/ owner ever. Wonderful people, wonderful place. I’m looking forward to the breakfast as well. Next time I come to Charlottesville I will be booking here. I will be telling everyone I know what a great experience this was for me. It’s nice to be comfortable far away from home.

My husband, dog and I stayed here at the end of January and it was everything I expected to be. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated, but everything is clean, it's in a great location, and most importantly the staff are friendly and welcoming. Scott at the front desk is wonderful, and every other person we came across greeted us with a hello and a smile. We plan on visiting Charlottesville soon and will not hesitate to stay here again!
