A small modest inn with clean comfortable rooms and friendly accommodating staff. The University Lodge is convenient to both downtown Amherst and to the UMass campus. Things got a bit raucous on the weekend and the walls began to seem a little thin, but after all this is a college town. I enjoyed my stay and I hope to return.
You get what you pay for, which is not much. Morning coffee in the office was promised but never appeared. When asking the front desk for some extra coffee packets for the in-room coffee maker, I was told that I had to wait until the cleaning service came by my room to get them. The wifi is terrible--slow and drops out constantly. Rooms are basic: not enough convenient sockets to charge your devices, flickering florescent lights, but at least there's a hot shower. It seems that the upstairs are private residencies, maybe rented by students? Someone was practicing drums above me today and last night I could swear there was someone pacing around all night.
One word: MOLD. And when I brought it to the front desk’s attention and showed them, they denied it and said that it wasn’t possible because they clean daily. Got moved to a second room where the mold was still present but minimal and it was too late to book anywhere else on a weekend. Would post a picture if it let me. I have some available!
I agree with other Google reviews I read. The cleanliness was okay and convenient location to UMass Amherst. You get what you paid for. The staff were very nice.
A run down, motel style place managed by the local Howard Johnson hotel. WiFi is included, as is free parking. The location is convenient to downtown Amherst. The front desk has limited hours; guests must call the Howard Johnson when the desk is closed. Complimentary coffee and sometimes doughnuts and muffins at the front desk in the morning.
