Hilton Garden Inn Durham/University Medical Center

It's a Hilton Garden inn. That being said, it average. The shower head is an instrument of torture not at all what I expected from Hilton. The bar menu was good and the breakfast is inexpensive and tasty. That is all basic and expected. If I could give 3.5 stars I would. Meh.

We were originally going to stay at a hotel closer to the hospital. However, I thought staying at a Hilton would be better. I was hoping they would be cleaner and I was willing to pay more. I have to say...I really regretted that decision around 2am. We had two beds. My kid was bitten in one, so she joined me in mine. Then, we found blood on the sheets. The heat did not work properly. It was either on until it smelled like it was burning or it was off. It would not turn off and on according to the temperature. So, we made the room as hot and stinky as we could handle it, turn it off, and then get under the covers into our super firm matress. We wanted more blankets, but they would not give us any more. The walls are paper thin. One room next to us microwaved items off and on all night long. You can hear the dings of the microwave like it is in your room. The other room took showers from 2-4 am. I know that because you can hear it like the water is running in your own room. In another room nearby someone was up coughing most of the night. During the outbreak that made me nervous because the door has a significant gap under it. If our heat would work, I am sure it would have pulled in the air under the door. So, I guess with that person coughing, it was a blessing our heat did not work. I did call at 2am and mention the bug bite and the blood. They offered to move us to another room. With a looming appointment at the hospital in a few hours I did not have the energy to move at that time. They said they would tell management and be back in touch. I never heard anything from them. Not really sure what I expected... but, I am sorry would have gone a long way. I regret, with all of my exhausted being, ever staying here. No, I do not recommend it. We hardly slept. Worried about bugs all night after first bite. We were so cold we were chattering.

What a fantastic stay! The staff here are very helpful and welcoming. I look forward to visiting this hotel again.

Friendly, upbeat staff. Very clean. Comfortable mattresses. Love the pillows. We always stay here when we come to Durham, NC.

I just hate that Covid19 removed daily housekeeping. The staff were extra courteous. I was too shy to ask for extra towels and have someone hand deliver them as needed. It was a GREAT stay!!
