This REI store in Grand Rapids Michigan is smaller than usual but fairly well stocked. During winter I was looking for my first set of layers to survive the Michigan winter and within 45 minutes I was able to get everything I needed. They have outlet with garage sale in standard sales on the same floor. That makes it easier to purchase and to figure out how to get the best deal.

Enthusiastic helpful staff. All of them appeared to be about 13 years old, but lots of people look very young to me. Prices are high but good quality and they have to pay the junior high schoolers living wages. They push the membership but it is a good deal for occasional shoppers and REI stocks items you can’t get at big box stores.

Great, well organized store. Really helpful staff at this location. It was a pleasure shopping here. The store is also very conveniently located with other retail nearby. I like the open layout with easy to access stuff up close to the door. Great range of gear as well. REI rocks!

I was very excited to go to this REI. I had no time schedule. Upon entering its very stressful with being greeted by someone with hand sanitizer at the door at 9:00 am. Once I got past the gate keeper a nice employee helped me find the camp stove butane I needed. He took them to the register for me while I went to shop for other items. A girl towards the back of the store asked if I needed help finding anything.... as I replied to her.... my mask slid off my nose while I was speaking. She cut me off from what I was saying to tell me I had to pull my mask over my nose to remain in the store before I could pull it back up. So, REI in Grand Rapids I gave you two stars. If the gentlemen that had helped me find my butane hadn’t helped me.... I’d have given you’d have gotten zero or maybe one star. You’re either giving your employees TOO strict of mask instructions or have an employee with zero customer service skills. Unfortunately I’ll never return because of her

Was helped by Nathaniel (im pretty sure that was his name). Not only did he help me find a GREAT coat for a killer deal, but was super knowledgeable and amazing. He made the experience just perfect. When i decide to branch out to colorful coats, I will be back to get his expertise.
