The Umstead Hotel and Spa

The service was great. Jeff, the massage therapist, was amazing. I was asked at reservation if I was celebrating an occasion and I noted I would be a new bride as of 1/18/2021. Upon checking in, the precious guest was celebrating a birthday and was provided a ‘gift’ from the spa. I thought it odd following this guest on my check-in there wasn’t a gift offer for me as a new bride. The spa team knew I was a new bride because they congratulated me at check-in acknowledging registration notes, and I had on a ‘bride’ mask.nnI spite of, I will return to the spa, not for the massage itself, it was great, what made it grand were the spa amenities: whirlpool, heated pool, sauna...all inclusive with the spa experience.

The spa was great. Never felt so special and taken care of. They were constantly cleaning even the massage therapist wash his hands before and after. Would highly recommended especially now of days.

Stopped in for drinks while in Raleigh from San Antonio. Wanted to check it out for a family trip for a wedding in July. Great bar, drinks were terrific and the hotel setting was amazing on the lake. Great art work in the gift shop and gallery. Looking forward to staying for 5 days this summer !!

I am extremely disappointed with the customer service and leadership at the Umstead. In celebration of my daughter's college graduation we made arrangements for a hotel stay and spa treatments. we also planned to arrange for a private dinner. Based on confirmation of our spa services by the reservationist we modified our travel plans to align with the spa's availability. After receiving an email confirmation from the spa, we later received a phone call from the Umstead indicating that an error had been made with our reservation and the we could not receive the treatments as confirmed. No apology was given, I was simply told that I needed to change the reservation. After expressing my frustration, an apology was rendered but the issue was not resolved. I was passed from the spa manger to the rooms director who informed that she would be unbale to address the issue until the spa director returned, almost one week later.nnAs an avid spa goer and frequent traveler , both personally and professionally, I have never experienced such poor customer service. Both of the staff I spoke with demonstrated little appreciation for the change s made to my travel plans based upon the confirmation I received. Nor did they attempt to resolve the situation in a timely or customer centric manner expected from a five star hotel.

LOVED staying here! Their restaurant, Herons, is out of this world. All of the staff was prompt and friendly. Linens were cozy, and we enjoyed all of the other amenities. Will definitely be a return customer.
