This was our third stay at Makanda Inn & Cottages. We have always stayed at the inn and love the quietness and privacy of the suites. They are comfortable and roomy-with our own doors leading to the wrap around deck. The setting is stunning and the breakfasts every morning are top notch! The location is very close to Giant City State Park if you want to hike some trails. Then of course we are in Shawnee Forest Wine Trail country-another bonus in this beautiful countryside! Greg and Shauna have done a fantastic job with the renovations in the suites as well! We will keep coming back!

This was our second visit to Makanda Inn. Even with the unusually frigid weather in Southern Illinois on Valentines Day weekend, the Inn was a great getaway for us. Greg and Shauna were very hospitable hosts and the breakfasts they prepared were delicious. Met some other nice folks to visit with as well. Will definitely make another return trip in the future!

We were a little hesitant at first because we were staying in the loft. When we stayed there before they did not have “The Loft”. We realized it was the space over their maintenance building so, we were not sure how well they used the space. It was a nice surprise. The accommodations were stellar. We loved the privacy it offered. We had our own patio and plenty of space for a sitting room. It made for a great week during my wife’s spring break.

Simply exquisite! From the moment you see the entrance sign, be prepared to be amazed. The setting is absolutely gorgeous! The architecture, fine natural hardwood touches and unique artwork/fixtures are stunning. The hosts are warm and gracious and have excellent culinary and bartending skills. The beds are luxurious and extremely comfortable. Treat yourself and get away to this unique spot. You'll be glad you did. We sure are!

We had a wonderful 2-night stay in the Indigo cottage. The bed was fantastically comfortable, and we truly enjoyed watching the birds play in the woods through the 8-foot picture window at the foot of the bed. I also enjoyed a couple of soaks in the soaking tub, and we both enjoyed our time drinking coffee and having a couple cocktails on the balcony and patio. Our only regret is the fire circle was buried under snow. We selected Makanda due to its proximity to two state parks (Giant City and Ferne Cliff) and several portions of the Shawnee National Forest that we'd not yet been able to explore on previous visits to Southern Illinois. Sadly, the foot of snow on the ground from a storm earlier in the week prevented us from exploring as much as we'd like, as either the roads were impassible or the trails were completely closed at some of the places we tried to go. However, Giant City was wonderful, and the hiking and the food/drink at the lodge were fantastic. Now we have a built-in excuse to visit Makanda Inn & Cottages again so we can explore what we missed, and perhaps even have a fire in the fire pit!
