Howard Johnson Express San Mateo

An older hotel. My Room was clean and did not smell. Bed wasn't the most comfortable I've had, however I had no problem sleeping. Location was great, walking distance to a few good places to eat. Parking is limited so be aware. i would stay here again

To start with good things; internet very fast, bad is nice, AC is working good. But then the room was not very clean. the floor should have rectifications. The safe is not working and they can't fix it! The breakfast very simple, they can add some items to make is acceptable. TV picture is not very good also.nCheck in was fast on the night. Staff told me I have only one night but when I show him print out he accepted it. Overall not bad.

We stayed at this Howard Johnson to be able to spend more time with our friends that were visiting from Europe some of the areas in California. The staff was very helpful and friendly! Here’s a quick list about the place:nPros:n- white bed setup (comforter and sheets) - easy to see that it’s a clean placen- Fridge!n- Microwaven- Modern look for the roomn- 2 of the rooms we stayed in had hardwood floors - carpets collect lots of dust and some people will be more allergic to them for this reasonn- Nice tiles in shower and bathroom floorsn- Nice looking pooln- Quick bite available for breakfastn- Late checked out by an hour was available (thank you!)n- easy access from highwayn- close to Safeway - we took a walk to grab some water and snacksnnCons:n- Shower water didn’t get as hot as I am used to - close but not quite theren- Thought it was pricy for a Howard & Johnson - maybe it’s the location that makes it so expensive. We paid around $170/night plus taxes

Place seemed to be a construction zone. So much stuff was closed or broken including the pool. Also front desk guy at check in was cold and not like friendly.nnRoom smelled bad, almost no water pressure. Jacuzzi tub didn't work, mold stains all over the ceiling, tons of dust in the closet (my daughter was playing dolls in there until she realized.)

I didn't realize that this hotel was really a motel (no elevators; doors outside). However, for the price, proximity to where I needed to travel, and most importantly the cleanliness it was fine. In fact, it was a lot cleaner than a Crowne Plaza I visited outside of Sacramento the other night. I appreciated that there were hardwood floors, clean sheets, and clean surfaces.
