Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Athens

This is a very good hotel and a cost-effective option if you need a place to stay in Athens. The location is reasonably convenient, the facility is quite nice without a lot of age, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is adequate and the rate is very fair.nnThe hotel is well located not far from US 33 near several other hotels in a commercial area. It was relatively easy to find as the building could be seen on approach, even though it was set back from the road.nnThe facility was rather attractive upon approach. I believe the General Manager (who was covering for the ill Night Auditor) told me the hotel had been open for five years or so. Hence, things were in good shape. As a Marriott Gold member, it was definitely up to the expectations I would have for a Fairfield.nnThe GM checked us in efficiently. He was very personable and pleasant. Our room was on the 3rd floor. We were upgraded because of status to a room with an extra sitting area that included a sofa. It was clean and quite spacious. The decor was nice enough. The bathroom services worked without fail. The bed was comfortable and the environs were quiet, allowing us to get a good night sleep.nnThe breakfast format was adjusted for COVID protocols. The hot food was served by the hostess. This included eggs, while biscuits and gravy were also available. Yogurt, breads, fruit and cereal were also available in the self-serve area. The quality of the fare was adequate. The sitting room was wonderfully spacious, meaning there were no problems with seating.nnOur base rate was $85. With tax, the final bill was about $96. I was pretty happy with this value, and I would stay here again if a situation arises in the future that would require a stay in Athens.

I chose not to go in the nice looking pool and fitness center but others looked to be enjoying themselves. The people there are great and personable. The lobby and room was amazing. The bed slept great, even with a 5ft tall nine year old sleeping next to me. Breakfast was reduced because of covid but every one liked it and most visitors wore their mask.

Nice hotel! College town, so that can be hit or miss. In this case a hit! We had a suite for $117, including tax! Clean and COVID19 responsible. Typical, but free breakfast. Highly recommended!

Beware. My daughter stayed here last night. She went to her car this morning at 9 and came back to seeing the woman from housekeeping carrying her purse down the hall. When she questioned her the girl said she was told my daughter checked out. As you might guess the money in her purse was missing. And the front desk wanted to offer her 30 bucks?! Not a safe place to stay!

Great room, fantastic free breakfast. They actually have someone there to serve fresh eggs. Continental done right!
