Stunning view, quiet, and aflutter with nearly silent activity.nnThe rental unit is the lower level of a beautiful home. The ample sitting area has a sectional sofa and two person high table and chairs which are a great use of the space. A small refrigerator/freezer is provided. A Keurig coffee machine is provided, with tea as well. The bedrooms are nice sized with many well curated decorative pieces.nnMy favorite pieces are the Amish made crazy quilt on the interior stairwell that separates the upper owner occupied area from the rental unit. Also Amish made is the stunning hickory rocker made locally for the owners. Such a well crafted piece of comfortably functional furniture. The last items of note are the pottery placed throughout. My favorite being the face pot in what I call the blue bedroom. A detailed and playful piece.nnThe unit provides games, books - from short stories and fiction to mystery - my favorite the collection of fishing themed short stories called The One That Got Away. A limited number of DVDs are provided too.nnThe patio with lower level fire pit is a great place to sit and observe or read. Many bird feeders provide the chance to see so many species. The numerous hummingbirds were our favorites. We also spent the evening hours watching the stars, planets, and satellites as they passed overhead. The night gave us a chance to hear a barred owl in the valley.nnThere are also some mowed short paths around the rental property for some strolling. Nice way to see the nearby fields and to see some of the local wildflowers.nnThe owners are the perfect balance of accessible and respectful of privacy. We chatted several times about the area and their suggestions and experience. The fresh daily baked goods are a welcome and delicious treat.nnAs far as the valley seen from the patio goes, the view of it is perfect. Just after dawn, the mist in the valley is a sight to see. We drove into the valley just after sunrise and took some photos. The mist makes for a dramatic image of the landscape.nnWe hiked at the owners’ suggestion a county park/forest called Duck Egg. Both entrances are good, but we preferred the prairie start point on the northern most entrance. The western entrance is more of a tree canopied trail that crosses the Bad Axe River at the beginning.nnYou can’t go wrong at Newton Ridge.nnNOTE about the area - please be aware that there are many Amish buggies on the roads around Viroqua and surrounding area. You can be quite surprised to crest a hill and see a buggy there. They are part of the road in this region. Just be aware and drive appropriately.
