I am a 100 percent disabled combat veteran. I moved in after being homeless. I was new to the area and upon checking into the veterans resource office I was informed of a service dog program for veterans with ptsd. Which I was diagnosed with 7 years ago. Immediately the owners began discriminating against myself and my family and offering is an “out” of the lease. Upon talking with said owners the gentleman repeatedly said we tricked him and are trying to get a dog in a no pets apartment. Well it’s a service dog not a pet and not a dog. A very important distinction. Then my other half received some suggestive and threatening messages on Facebook from his wife. So in not feeling safe and secure in our place to live we decided to move. I gave him over a thousand dollars in prorated rent and was there for a week maybe. I have received absolutely nothing of that back or contact after having tried to contact them. I will be contacting HUD as well as the ADA and local veterans resources in an attempt to hold these people who think they’re above the law because they built it accountable. News flash as a property owner writing leases you have laws you need to abide by. It’s not just whatever you say goes. This was not a fight you wanted to pick and the worst power trip you ever went on. Remember I tried to be civil about this. Good luck.
