I rented a car from Brunca while on vacation for a week in Costa Rica in. I was obligated to pay a $1,000 refundable deposit. Although I returned the car without any damage or problems, Brunca never returned the deposit. I have spoken with them many times and am always given the same excuses. My credit card company (Marriott Rewards Visa) has not been any help in recovering the money. Don't rent from Brunca!

UPDATE: **FRAUD ALERT** After disputing the charge for the deposit with my credit card company, I received notice that Brunca fraudulently claimed that the vehicle was returned with damage. I requested information regarding the alleged "damage," to which I again received no response. I did not even ask to be reimbursed for the $180 battery I installed in the rental vehicle. I simply asked that the $996 deposit be returned. I have now exhausted in excess of 50 hours attempting to recover the deposit for the vehicle rental from this unscrupulous company. ORIGINAL POST: I reserved a 4x4 vehicle because the house I rented is up a steep incline dirt road. Brunca arrived an hour late at the airport with a 2 wheel drive car. After another hour speaking to various people, Brunca agreed to meet me in Jaco with a 4x4 vehicle for an additional $120. The car brought to me was all wheel drive (not 4x4) and had bald tires. I noticed the car had difficulty starting but was assured it was fine. The following day, the battery died, leaving my family stranded during a downpour. I paid $180 to replace the battery. Brunca promised to credit the amount of the battery. Instead, Brunca has ceased all communication and retained the $1,000 deposit in addition to not issuing a credit for the battery. UPDATE: It has been two weeks since I returned the car to Brunca (complete with new battery). I have received no response to my attempts to contact Brunca regarding the return of my $1,000 deposit and credit for $180 battery. I also have not received the deposit reimbursement or credit.
