We came here to enjoy a serene and quiet time as a family. We had that and so much more. We stayed for two nights and had the best time. Pickett and her family are the sweetest. The breakfast was amazing each day. Oak Grove has so much land to explore. Easy trail walks and bird sightings. Not to mention that this home has over 200 years of history and all still within the same family! It seems everyone in this town is so sweet. We left Oak Grove with long time friends.
We had a fun and quiet weekend at this B&B. Our family really enjoyed Oak Grove's hiking trail and waking up to the delicious breakfasts Pickett prepared for us. It was very hot while we were there but we visited Staunton Park's swimming area and it was just perfect. Dinner in neighboring Halifax was also great. This place is a gem!
Speaking personally, I'm being treated for cancer and I was a little nervous about taking a 5 hour drive from DC with friend: how my energy would hold up, how I would handle the food and different surroundings and company. Everything worked well- I was extremely comfortable and managed a 3 mile walk through the lovely pine and oak trees one day. (wear long socks over tucked-in pants)This was s test for myself and I enjoyed the company of the hosts' two asstandard poodles, India and Nico, I enjoyed the peace of the front porch watching the occasional hummingbird at the feeder, the sound of the birds at dawn and dusk, it was interesting to se the solar panels at ground level and learn how effective they are for the house. The firm bed was very comfortable and Pickett and Mike were great hosts
