Avis Car Rental

If I could give this place a NEGATIVE review I ABSOLUTELY WOULD. I was in complete and utter shock at how rude the woman running this place was. We made a reservation to pick up a rental car online to travel to Mount Rushmore just for a day from the Pierre area, When we got to Avis to pick up the vehicle the woman was nowhere to be found. She was out with a sign on the desk saying she would be back, even though we had a reservation for 12:30 she arrived back at 1:00. When she arrived we told her about our reservation. She asked where we flew in from and we told her Sioux Falls and she immediately snapped and said well you know my cars can’t go there. Which we didn’t plan on having it just but one day. We asked her if she took cash/debit because it didn’t say online. She got a attitude and said no, we should know that you can’t rent a car without a credit card, but you can where we are from so we didn’t know, anyways we got the credit card for her along with the information from the reservation, apparently they only take cash/debit when you’re dropping off the vehicle. She asked us where we were traveling to and we told her, she asked for the total miles the trip would be, I pulled up my GPS and gave her the mileage, she then proceeded to call me a liar, saying she’s lived here her whole life, telling me it would be more miles than that and I would have to pay extra for them , 40¢ per mile. So I said okay and I let that go and asked to continue on with the rental. She then gave me my total and it was NOTHING like the total I received when I made the reservation. The total I received online was $180. The total she gave me was nothing close to that, it was a couple hundred more. She then told me I would also have to pay for their insurance which, I was going to anyway, online it was an extra $14.00 per day, she wanted to charge $30 a day, even with me telling her I had a full coverage plan of my own. I told and showed her the total I was given online and she proceeded to tell me that she has nothing to do with reservations online and her prices were different and if I didn’t like it we could go somewhere else. It confused me, because we made our reservation online, through the company for her branch of the franchise. She had our reservation slip. I then handed her the credit card and she screamed at the and told Me that she didn’t accept debit. That was enough for me. Needles to say we DID NOT rent a car from this place and I STRONGLY encourage no one else to. It was unbelievable how rude she was. I don’t know how they even have a business or can rent anything.

The staff is very friendly, and we had a great experience. Remember, this is a small town mom and pop operation. The customer service is designed around people who aren't in much of a hurry. Keep this in mind, and be prepared to be patient, and you won't have any problems.

We rented a car and noticed a small driver side window chip before we drove off the lot at the airport. I assumed the damage was already reported from the previous rental. We had no paperwork to document any damage prior to the rental. When we returned the vehicle, they noted the window chip and said we cause it. Be very careful to inspect the vehicle before you drive away and have them document any damages, otherwise they are going to accuse you of the damages and make you pay.
