Routes Car Rental

DO NOT EVER, AND I MEAN EVER, rent from Routes Car Rental in Chicago. They are deceptive and rude. You are not notified at any time that you need to shuttle to the rental car center, and then call to get another shuttle to their location. The person I called was completely annoyed and took 40 minutes to come pick us up at 10:30 pm. The person at the counter was equally as rude. You are told when you arrive you must present a copy of your insurance card or you will have to buy their insurance. Who carries their insurance card with them? I had to call someone at home and get them to take a photo of my insurance ID card. You are never told at any time or in any paperwork that you need that at check in. Once the car was returned, the final person to deal with was the absolute worst of everyone. Claims I dented the car....which I absolutely did not. She inspected the car in a total of 20 seconds....and never even looked at the history of the car before rudely telling me that I caused the dent. I disputed this and had to fill out an incident report for an incident that never happened. After arriving home, we never heard from them again until they charged my credit card $1400 to apparently repair a dent. No notice. No email or phone call stating they have some sort of estimate. No authorization from us to charge the card. It is ridiculous. NEVER NEVER AGAIN. As I read other reviews, it appears this is standard practice for them. They bait you with a good rate and then they scam you at the end. The employees are unbelievably rude. Please listen to my warning and find another rental car company to use. If I could give them negative stars, I would.

Don't usually write reviews but after seeing all the negative reviews here, I felt I needed to leave an honest one as well. The deal they have on the Jeep Wrangler is by far the best deal in the city. I've used them twice in a span of a month so far and both times their price was unbeatable. I definitely got dinged for not having the insurance card the first time but even with that the price was still better than other places. Next time, I showed them my insurance card on my phone and avoided their insurance with no problems.nnA few things everybody should know: YES YOU HAVE TO USE A CREDIT CARD, YES YOU HAVE TO TAKE TWO SHUTTLES TO GET THERE, YES YOU HAVE TO SHOW YOUR INSURANCE CARD AND YES THE STAFF ISN'T GIVING YOU A 5-STAR LUXURY HOTEL EXPERIENCE. If you don't want to take the two shuttles, get an uber. I have Progressive car insurance and you can literally download your insurance card into your iPhone Wallet App and quickly show them. Leave plenty of time for shuttles and plan for a straight-to-the-point experience without any fluff and you'll be fine. It's not the end of the world. Also, when you drop the car off, the shuttle drops you off straight at your gate so you don't have to take 2 shuttles to catch your return flight.nnHowever, if you're not renting the Jeep I would probably just use a different rental company and safe yourself any hassles.

I was a little scared to rent from this place but glad I did. They really do have great people working for them.( The only problem is they don't rent to locals and seems like the locals aren't happy about that. ) In regards to my rental it went very smoothly. Everyone was very helpful and nice. Thanks Routes for making our vacation go so well.

If I could do zero stars I would. Apparently my reservation said 330 am, it was supposed to be pm. When I arrived at 5pm, my reservation was canceled and they refused to even give me another car.nnSo after traveling for 20 hrs, spending 60$ on a taxi, I had to get a lyft for another 15$ to take me to Enterprise Rental where I am always treated with kindness and respect. The manager at Enterprise has been so kind and took care of us immediately, no idea why I even decided to give Routes a shot.nnDon't waste your time!!!!

I usually rent my vehicles from Budget car rental but their prices are outrageous since the Pandemic hit the USA ud83cuddfaud83cuddf8nRoutes was great from time of booking until I returned my vehicle.nI would like to give a shout out to Andrei for his awesome customer service and exciting personality he demonstrated during my experience with Routes car rental.nnI would recommend these folks all day long.nnRespectfully...nnJ.
