I just found a completely random unexpected charge for 60 dollars. After having to sit on the phone with customer service for an hour it got removed but they apparently said we didn't fill the tank with gas which luckily we still had a receipt saying we did at the closest gas station. Also, they said we upgraded our car which is insane because I prepaid for a jeep a month in advance and they were completely out of jeeps when I got there so they had to switch us to a different car. Absolutely worst rental car service I've used and I travel for work so I have used a lot.

After a 2 month rental returned car, had a friendly chat with the attendant, said aloha. 2 weeks later a phantom charge on my credit card which I eventually learn is a $450 cleaning charge for the “sand and 2 empty water bottles” I left in the car!! I inquired with avis call center and had a the surreal experience, where someone in a call center read from a screen about the poor condition of my return (funny, the human attendant said nothing when he was with me at the vehicle in Kona?)? Really? A 5 minute vacuuming of surface sand from normal Hawaii beach traffic?? Reading other complaints this sounds like a scam others have been victim to.

**RENTERS BEWARE** - After our 2-week Hawaii trip at Kona I received an unexpected letter from Avis with a $279 VACUUM CHARGE for cleaning out sand in the car. We were visiting Hawaii for 2 weeks, so yes there was some sand in the car. If I would have known of this EXCESSIVE UNEXPECTED CHARGE, I would have stopped at a gas station and paid 50 cents for a vacuum and spent 10 minutes vacuuming out the sand. I have rented cars for over 40 years for personal and business travel and have NEVER been treated like this. I contacted customer service and was promised a supervisor would call me back to discuss this charge, with my indicating I was willing to pay $50 or more, but not $279. No supervisor ever called. I made a 2nd request and was told no supervisor would call me. They got my $279 for now, but they won't get my business in the future and I will contact my bank to have this UNREASONABLE AND EXCESSIVE CHARGE reversed.

Be careful. Charged me for 2.4 gallons of gas when I'd just filled it up at nearby Hele station. I got receipt for the gas fortunately and they reversed after I called. Need to look at receipt!!!

Even though it took way more time to get out of the airport than expected, we had to wait a super long time to get checked in. Then our car wasn't ready because they only had one person detailing cars...and it still had glitter all over the back seat. ud83dude12
