Avis Car Rental

The staff at Avis went above and beyond to help me this past weekend. My sweet, elderly grandmother has been in lockdown at her assisted living facility since March. Restrictions at her facility mean that I'm not able to sit close enough for her to hear me during visits, so we set up an outdoor lunch date at a carefully selected restaurant. I drive a pickup truck, and with her limited mobility she can't get in and out of it comfortably. Under normal circumstances I would borrow a car from a friend, but since I was trying to take every precaution to keep her safe from covid, I thought renting a car (that is professionally cleaned), would be better. A competing rental car company cancelled my reservation at the last minute, and I was scrambling. Kevin at the Parsipanny Avis heard my story, and called me back with a solution. My grandmother was so, so grateful for a couple of hours out of confinement, and I can't express enough how much I cherished our lunch, after so many months apart. Avis helped make this gift possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The rental rates are cheap at this location because it is far out and in the middle of nowhere. Showed up got my car inspected it and was on my way return was just as quick and easy. My only problem was the distance and how far it was from everything.

On August 25th, 2020, I picked up a car from Boston Logan Airport. We noticed what seemed to be liquid steaks down the exterior sides of the vehicle. The next day we were getting ready to leave with family when a family member recognized the spots of perceived liquid to be dried blood (and because of his law enforcement career we were also notified that rentals are often used in criminal activities, to our shock and horror). Upon inspecting the car closer we noticed blood spatter on the backseat ceiling area, on the seat and interior of the door. The blood spots were also found extensively on the exterior of the car and in the trunk area. We contacted the Boston Logan Avis of this issue and requested an exchange of vehicles. The location could not assist due to lack of vehicles, and we were asked to try one of the closer Avis sites for availability. After calling 3 locations we were informed nothing was until the next day. We used Clorox wipes to try to clean the car (after we took MANY MANY pictures) and ultimately had to cancel plans with our grandchildren whom we had flown up to see because we could to get the car clean and didn’t want to chance them coming into contact with possibly contaminated blood. Aug 27th: After recalling the 3 locations without help, we called the 800# and we were told to go to a non-corporate Avis location of 94 East Hollis St with Michael Ferris as the manager. We were told to switch the car there as they had inventory and we wouldn’t have a problem doing so. After speaking to Michael Ferris, we were told to call the corporate Avis helpline again so he could speak to the rep before he would conduct a swap. The rep spoke he spoke with (on OUR phone without a mask) told him the swap cannot happen. Michael then asked for the supervisor and conducted his business with the supervisor away from my presence. Eventually, he was told to swap the vehicles. Due to the nature of the substance, I was tested for COVID, Hepatitis, and HIV. I have served as a medic in the U.S. Army so I know what pathogens can do. I remember the red and white sticker on the rear-view mirror stating that the car has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, blah blah blah. Had this been the case, you would not be reading this right now. It is obvious this was not done with the 2020 Toyota Corolla that I received. I gave the Boston Logan location a chance to fix this. Called the customer service line numerous times to find a solution and it has gotten this far. All I received was a portion of the rental fee and an apologize. Unsatisfied as there was no word on further stringent cleaning rules or how this situation is not to be repeated. Avis, you get an F on this.

Limited cars available here.. Have to book early with pre pay. Other wise you will not get car here.. Corporate customer offers not allowed for me.. Policy wise for me all offer eligible. But in counter not accepted.. Before taking car, check car condition and price once..
