Avis Car Rental

Unless you want your rental car to show up a day late at over triple the price, do not rent from them.nnInput airport flight info into reservation (6:30pm). Apparently office closes at 5:30pm. Unable to reach anyone at location. Finally got through on national number and they let me know no car until morning.nnCalled in the morning. I was put on hold for 20 minutes. Tried calling at least 15 times before realizing desk associate had no interest in answering phone.nnCalled the national number and was told I could get a car at Charleston airport even though I still had a standing reservation. I have no way to get to Charleston (2 1/2 hour drive).nnI ended up at another major renter but at $909 for 5 days, instead of $212 for 6 days. It took until 1 pm the next day to fix something that shouldn’t have been a problem.

I will never rent from Avis at Hilton Head airport again. This was the worst rental experience I’ve ever had, which started with the selection and cleanliness of the vehicles, but then carried over to the staff for not understanding why someone wouldn’t want to drive an old, dirty vehicle around. All 3 of the cars that were given to me look like they had never been cleaned, and 2 of them smelled of cigarettes and had cigarette ashes all over the car. This would be unacceptable any other time, but during Covid, it is clear that Avis does not care about ensuring customers feel safe renting a vehicle from them. I had to take photos because this was so unbelievable. The 3rd vehicle only had a half of tank of gas, but the app reported it was full at pick up. I rent from Avis regularly, and although I feel the quality and selection of vehicles has gone down over the course of the last few years, this was an entirely new level of low. I dealt with 2 staff members over the course of 2 days (02/04 and 02/05) and neither were empathetic or apologized about the quality of the vehicles. The second day that I returned the vehicle to swap it out (that was the suggestion of the employee on 02/04), the employee working said he didn’t have a vehicle for me in the compact car class, and kinda shrugged his shoulders. I booked a full-size, so I reminded him of that, and he still shrugged and said he didn’t have anything. I told him that the employee from the day before said they would have more vehicles today and that I could swap it out. He didn’t say anymore to me, and a few minutes later handed me keys to a Camry. I was hopeful, but once getting out to the car, this was the worst one yet. Both employees I encountered could use customer service training. If you don’t want to put forth an effort to help people, or even pretend to be friendly and accommodating, then a job in customer service is not for you. I am happy to provide more in depth feedback if needed.

Rental experience was great! Shareea waited for us after closing time due to our flight arriving late. She upgraded us since the vehicle we reserved wasn't available. She also checked us in when we returned the vehicle. Friendly and helpful. GREAT customer service!

Highly recommend renting with Avis on HHI. This was my second time and I look forward to the next.nThe person who checked me out is fantastic, such a pleasant experience and great customer service!

Service was fast and easy. Vehicle was upgraded at no additional cost and was extremely clean.
