Winston-Salem Transit Authority

The Winston Salem Transit Authority is a huge bus terminal. Which is very conveniently located right in the middle of downtown Winston Salem. The heart of the city. The bus routes cover all sections of the city and each route is designed to leave the terminal reach the end of it's route and make it back to the terminal all within an hour. The buses are very comfortable, spacious, hybrid electric, climate controlled, video monitored and safe. All this at an affordable rate of a dollar per trip. It's free to transfer at the terminal, so your entire trip for the day would only cost you a dollar there and a dollar back. Which is way cheaper than taking a cab, or even your own vehicle. Overall the Winston Salem Transit Authority is a cheap, reliable and safe way to commute whithin the city. And also has the Part bus to get you to surrounding cities. On March 12, 2021, I took Bus #105 (TC Bay D-2) at 4pm. A man got on the bus without a mask. The bus driver told him he could not ride without a mask. I had an extra mask so I gave it to him. After he sat down, he immediately started yelling and cursing. I looked at the man and then at the bus driver. I never said a word. The bus driver told him to stop yelling and cursing because he was disrespecting me. He responded that he was not talking to me. The bus driver got into an argument with him that was absolutely bizarre. The man said he needed a girlfriend and the bus driver said she would find him a girlfriend. They kept up this back and forth to the end of the bus line which was my stop and the man that I gave the mask to. I transferred to Bus #108 and the man got on the same bus. He kept trying to talk to me. I said nothing. I am a senior citizen that felt afraid for my life. It was only after this man got off the bus that I felt relief.

Well labeled for different routes and pick up/drop off times. Very helpful staff. Vending machines. Outlets for charging things. Ample seating. Smoking areas outside. Restrooms large and well-stocked.

The bus passed me even though I was at the stop. The Next bus tracking system doesn’t work. I stood at the stop and the tracker said I had 2 minutes. The bus ended up being late, which means I’ll be late for work. I think the biggest issue is the fact that some drivers let people ride the bus without a mask even though it’s a mandate that riders have on a mask. and I’ve seen a few drivers pass some out mask to riders who ask. Then they fill the bus up instead of following the 25 max capacity they WSTA issued. So yeah...thanks for making us all late, not requiring mask during a pandemic, and stuffing people in like sardines.

Horrible place. Greyhound driver didn't bother to park to pick up passengers on Wednesday January 13 morning towards Atlanta (1st stop towards Chicago), but kept sliding slowly then left (I have filled a claim against him/her) also the FEMALE SECURITY GUARD is hostile, aggressive, unprofessional, she targeted me with no reason repeating that the station would close for the night, yelling that I had to leave (5pm when station closes at 11:45!) instead of checking what all those random people were doing there without a ticket or ride, hanging around. She is a defamation for the station and the city! I am a truck driver and was there to get the bus to Chicago to get hired by a trucking company which booked for me the bus ticket. I had to pay a $20 fee to change for next morning that's why I was staying there. I don't live in the town! I had my semi truck broken down in Salem VA on I-80N and was towed here. The whole experience in this very transit station gave me a really bad taste of the city of Winston Salem. I now believe that this area is hostile and negative. My only positive experience was the truck shop Super Fleet Services (great mechanics and great humans, I have to share here that after the security guard kicked me out (!) of the station at 5.30pm because the station closes at ...11:45, James the manager of Super Fleet Services picked me up and put me in the Courtyard of Marriot hotel, also treated me a pizza... while he had no reason to do it, but he's a gentleman and amazing HUMAN! (like I said I was stranded in the area not knowing any soul here!) This bus station is a nightmare, totally disorganized and noisy. Can't decide what was worse: the Greyhound or the Security guard... This whole experience gave me a very bad taste of Winston Salem as a hostile place... If it wasn' the Super Fleet Services truck shop 's manager James with his humane attitude and heart of gold, this day today would be an absolute hell on earth! Vanya Kouveli
