We rented this car for a weekend trip to Death Valley. We were able to complete everything online and pick up the same day. Unfortunately when we got there a cardboard note was displayed on the door saying the associate would be right back. My fiancé called the number after waiting 10 minutes and a disgruntled man answered complaining about some other customers and that he would return soon. Upon his arrival he was still complaining as he handed over the keys. When we got in the car there were stains on the passenger seat, door, as well as cup holders. The car smelled absolutely terrible, clearly it hadn’t been cleaned before being lent to us. The gas tank was only 3/4 of the way full when we received it. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but the gentleman at the counter demanded we refill the tank to full or he’d charge us $10 per gallon even though we were returning it with 3/4 of a tank, just how we received it. We’ll be going to enterprise next and recommend you do too. It’s not worth it for the few dollars saved.

Service at pickup was quick. I was able to pick up the car early which was great. I filled the car up with gas less than a mile away and returned the car. A week later I was shocked to see that I was being charged $18 more than the agreed upon amount. I called customer service and they stated that I was being charged a gas charge for not filling up the tank. I put over $35 into a 14.5 gallon tank that was still 3/4 of the way full and drove less than a mile to drop the car off. Now I have hundreds of dollars out on my credit card for this one rental because they were not able to just process a partial refund. They had to charge my card again and refund the whole amount. Don't worry, I didn't need to use my credit card at all for over 2 weeks. I will never rent from this location again.

I rented a car from this Escondido location to drive up to Los Angeles to drive home a new car I planned to purchase, and all I can say was this was one of the best experiences I have had with a rental company. Ziad checked me in and answered all my questions. He was helping another customer at the same time and was very efficient. He had the paperwork completed quickly and I was on the road in a heartbeat. The car had just been cleaned and was ready to go. I had to call this Escondido office a few times for a few other questions, and Mike answered all of them and he was also very polite and great! When I dropped the rental car off up in LA, I met another great Budget employee, Rafael, who closed me out and checked in the car. All three employees provided exceptional customer service, and made my field trip in buying a new car and even better experience! Buying a car is a stressful situation as it is, and I don't think the first part of my day would have been as great and event-free had it not been for the ease and friendless of these employees. I really appreciate the service they provided, and they should all three be recognized for doing a job well-done. DO NOT GO TO THIS BUSINESS! The owner started screaming at us when we corrected him on a mistake he made. We drove 10 miles and the owner charged us for 100 at $1/mile. He was completely disrespectful to us and didn't even check to see if he was wrong. If you walk in and see the man who looks like a pig in human form, leave!
