National Car Rental

As always, National was perfect. Checking in/out has never been easier, the cars/trucks are loaded and clean and I am never left waiting. Great employees, good prices - why go elsewhere?

No cars to pick from so I ended up paying extra 3 weeks in a row for an upgrade. I could have waited for a car to become available but time is important while on a business trip. Also I had the same car 2 weeks in a row and the upgrade price was dramatically different each week.nI still will only use National, 10 years and overall they do pretty good.

National typically makes it very easy for the consumer, but this time the row of cars from which I was eligible to rent (per my agreement) were not clearly marked. The employees on site weren’t especially helpful, but still it was a relatively quick process. When returning the car the employee there was courteous, fast, and very helpful.

For now, I'm posting 3 stars. But that may change.nnI reserved online and brought by confirmation # with me. Upon arrival, I was sent to the car area with no paperwork, was told it was all set. The car area gave me keys. I drove to the checkout lane and there I sat for :20 because nothing was set. The line grew behind me...no big deal, just a hassle.nnThen, we returned it to the location on the reservation. That location had no live person that works for them, only a desk receptionist for the airport.nnMy concern was the timing. We rented at 11:00 am Central time. I dropped the vehicle off at 10:15 eastern time. I called the customer service line to make sure my call was registered as being returned before 72 hours. I sat on hold for over :20. Finally reaching a live person who assured me that National would note the confirmation number that the return was set at 10:15.nnWell I received my bill and, not to my surprise, I was charged for another full day. The bill showed a return of 1:15pm.nnIf this were a $20 rental, I would chalk it up. But my confirmation was $710.67. I was charged $947.58.nnI've sent 2 emails , 2 days in a row, with ZERO response.n***********************************************************nupdate: I get a response from a customer service rep. I replied immediately with my back-up in 2 separate emails. That was Wed. As of today, I haven't received a response, acknowledgement nor a credit.

The rental car options available to us at MSP were good. However, even though I asked to have some rental awards applied to this trip (two free days), I was still charged the full amount. Just contacted the support desk yesterday, so waiting to hear back, to see if I will have the awards honored or not. I am a little disappointed in this, as National has been stellar on previous rental occasions.
