Payless Car Rental

I researched several companies for pricing and availability and made reservations at least one week early to ensure I could use a debit card to rent a car to drive from Missouri to Texas. I spoke directly to the airport location to confirm the $300 deposit. When I arrived (after driving 3 hours from home) I was told (while I was still in line in front of other customers) that there was a $500 deposit for using a debit card along with several other requirements and even if those were met their cars can not be taken to Texas. They then proceeded to tell me I had the wrong company, after looking up my reservation again I was told it was OK, he found it and canceled it. I could go down the street to enterprise. (Still while in line with the other customers) I would recommend additional customer service training although in my observation the other customers were not treated this way.

Careful with them. Quite a while ago I made a reservation on their web page. It was a good rate but apparently a little too good. Because when I got to the counter I was told they couldn't give me that low of a rate......I should have called their customer service but thought I better take their rate knowing last minute car rentals are very expensive at another company. I wrote their corporate office and to their credit they refunded me the difference and apologized........Maybe they have improved since I was there but I'm not taking the chance and would never rent from them again.

Horrible experience and will never rent from Payless at any location ever again. We got a flat tire about 6 hours after renting a car from them. It was during a snow storm and at night, so we slowly drove the car about 1-1/2 miles to our hotel and called Payless. The employee working at night was rather clueless, so I called back in the morning. Not only did I have to use my own AAA service to get the spare on, but I was required to drive the car back to the airport, then charged $300 to put a new tire on a car that had 32,000 miles on it. The manager said that they put new tires on their cars all the time - give me a break - there is no reason to replace tires before 40,000 miles unless the tire is damaged. Seems that Payless has no qualms about taking advantage of their customers to maintain their fleet. Fine, we just won't be doing business with your unethical company again.

Literally the worst experience. We booked a car to drive on a short road trip to Colorado. We showed up to pick up our car, all excited and ready to hit the road. In the course of conversation, the rep found out we were going to Colorado and refused to rent us the car. He said we were only allowed to drive to NE, IA, OK, MO, and AR. Nowhere in the booking did it even mentioned anything about not being able to drive it to Colorado (even in the fine print) and if we hadn’t brought it up, they would never even had known bc it isn’t asked. The rep was so rude about it too.nEvery other rental car place said they had no issue with driving to CO, but unfortunately, same day bookings were 3x what we originally could have booked in advance. Our whole vacation getaway was spoiled.nWill not be using Payless again ... rude and unreliable.

I would never recommend renting a car their, very dissapointed. Their online rental policies are different than at the counter.
