Two stars only because they provide a critical, transit-accessible, service in a city where most of us don't own cars.The staff could use a serious crash course in customer service 101 though. Watch for hidden fees -- they process your payment without letting you know that's not the price you were quoted. Once they process it, it's too late to make changes and you have to go through the even more nightmarish 800 number.

This company went on a joyride with my vehicle for 48 hours and claimed I returned it two days late. I returned it 12 hours before my reservation ended after hours on Sunday night at 9PM (the Hertz associate told me to do this the day before). My reservation ended at 10AM on Monday.nHertz somehow subsequently claimed I returned it on Tuesday at 230PM.nnThis is totally unacceptable and I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Hertz is a complete scam of a company, and this kind of treatment towards customers explains why they went bankrupt. This location should be investigated for fraud as soon as possible by the DC Government.

I made a reservation at this location two days prior to the date. I then confirmed the day before. When I arrived, the person at the desk told me they didn't have any cars and, if I waited, they couldn't guarantee that (1) any cars would arrive and (2) the cars that may arrive would be of the type or size that I had reserved. I was in a pinch and needed a car ASAP so I had to walk over to Avis next door and get a car. I do not know why you need to bother with the reservation process if they aren't going to have any cars. There were other people in line who were told the same thing, and one customer was told he could come back the next day to see if they had any cars. Terrible location.

I have never had a worst customer service experience in my life. I arrived in Washington DC, far from home only to find that because we used a debit card we had to have two forms of ID for the same person, which we did not bring with us. They canceled our reservation and would not give us a car, saying that was their policy even though we had no way of knowing it, leaving us and our three young children stranded at union station even though we had ALREADY PAID for the car a month in advance and had several other debit cards to use in case they didn’t trust the one we had. There was absolutely nothing written in their policy about these two forms of ID-we went over all of our paperwork we signed originally. All other rental car places were sold out of vehicles and we spent hours getting resolution to the situation and waited for another service who were so kind to us and helped us find a way to get to where we were going. I will never use hertz car rental ever in all of my travels again. Go to enterprise or budget, they were so much easier to work with, And they didn’t care that we used the same exact debit card the same day to get our car.
